How to Delete Your Account

You can delete your account directly from the Capitol Trades Tracker mobile app:

1. Open the App
   Launch Capitol Trades Tracker on your mobile device and ensure you're logged in.
2. Navigate to Profile
   Tap on the More tab at the bottom, then select Profile from the menu.
3. Initiate Deletion
   Scroll down and tap the Delete Account button (displayed in red at the bottom of the screen).
4. Confirm Deletion
   Read the confirmation dialog carefully, then tap Delete to confirm. You will be immediately logged out, and your account will be permanently deleted.

What Happens After Deletion?

Immediate Effects

• You will be immediately logged out of the app
• Your account will be permanently deactivated
• Your authentication credentials will be revoked

Data Deletion Timeline

• User Profile Data: Deleted immediately from our production databases
• Authentication Data: Removed from Firebase Authentication within 24 hours
• Backup Systems: Purged from backups within 30 days (industry standard retention period)
• Analytics Data: Anonymized aggregated data may be retained for service improvement (contains no personally identifiable information)

What Data is NOT Deleted

For legal, security, and operational reasons, we may retain certain information:

• Transaction Records: We do NOT collect or store any stock trading data—all trading information comes from public government sources and is not tied to your account
• Legal Compliance Data: Data required by law to be retained (e.g., for tax compliance, fraud prevention)
• Anonymized Analytics: Aggregated, non-identifiable usage statistics that cannot be traced back to you
• Server Logs: Technical logs may be retained for up to 90 days for security and debugging purposes

   • Confirmation that you want your account permanently deleted
4. We will verify your identity and process the deletion within 7 business days

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I recover my account after deletion?

No. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed. If you want to use Capitol Trades Tracker again, you will need to create a new account.

Will I lose access to congressional trading data?

No. All congressional trading data is publicly available and not tied to your account. You can access the same public data by creating a new account or through other public sources.

How long does the deletion process take?

The deletion is immediate. Your account will be deactivated and your profile data deleted as soon as you confirm. Backend systems and backups are purged within 30 days.

Will my Google account be affected?

No. Deleting your Capitol Trades Tracker account does not affect your Google account. We only remove the connection between your Google account and our app.

Can I delete my account and create a new one with the same email?

Yes. After your account is deleted, you can sign up again using the same Google account/email address. However, all previous data will be lost.
